WHAT TO LOOK FOR

The source material depicts various animals through different instrumentation and a variety of distinct melodies. McKinney does a wonderful job of highlighting several sections of the band to represent each of the different themes.

The Tuba section humorously portrays “The Elephant” to great effect. Throughout the show sections and soloists are highlighted quite literally centerstage on a platform in the middle of the field.

From a visual standpoint, the Colorguard does a great job of bringing the show to life. While the entire guard is spinning their tails off, keep an eye on the remarkable soloists up front throughout each movement of the show!

We’ll leave you with one last ear worm to prep you for the show. “The Swan” is likely the most recognizable movement from The Carnival of the Animals, and for good reason. Here it is as performed by masterful musicians Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott.
